Corrado Viafora

Corrado Viafora (1950) is professor of Moral Philosophy in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Padova and he holds the chair of Bioethics in the Faculty of Educational Sciences and in the Faculty of Medicine. In the University of Padova he is also Director of the Post-Graduate Course in Bioethics organised by the Department of the Comparative Law and President of the Bioethics Committee of the Department of Pediatrics.

As scientific co-ordinator of the "Ethics and Medicine" project of Lanza Foundation, he directed, since 1988 till 2003 "The International Meetings on Bioethics", "The Interdisciplinary Seminars on Ethics and Medicine", "The National Meetings on Italian Bioethics", and in October 1999 "The International Meeting on Clinical Bioethics".

He is frequently involved in public debates concerning the main controversial bioethical issues, in academic seminars and national and international research projects, among which EUROBS Project on Developments of perinatal technology and ethical decision-making during pregnancy and birth (1998-2000) and BIOMED concerted action on Ethical function in Hospital ethics committees (1998-2001).

As bioethicist he also serves in different institutions like ethics committees, public commissions, professional forums and editorial boards.

The main fields of his research on bioethics concern both anthropological and ethical issues including (i) person and bioethics; (ii) theoretical models in clinical bioethics; (iii) methodologies for ethical analysis in Hospital Ethics Committees; (iv) ethics of palliative care and (v) bioethics education.
