Quality assurance
Quality Assurance Systems are typically split into internal and external quality systems. In internal quality assurance systems the study programme itself is responsible for the evaluation. In external quality assurance systems this is done by experts that are not part of the study programme or institution. The (Erasmus Mundus) Master of Bioethics is participating in internal and external quality evaluations.
During the programme the students are asked to evaluate the different components of the programme through questionnaires and through hearings. Thanks to the input of students and an evaluation of the teaching staff, the programme is updated continuously in order to enhance the quality of the programme.
The (Erasmus Mundus) Master of Bioethics is also participating in external quality evaluations. Please find here (rtf) the complete report (a translation provided by the VLIR) from the quality audit committee. Higher education programmes that have successfully completed the external quality assessment send their assessment report to the NVAO, which evaluates the thoroughness of the external assessment and accepts or rejects its findings. The (Erasmus Mundus) Master of Bioethics has participated in the joint accreditation method of the Netherlands-Flemish Accreditation Organisation (NVAO). The components of this accreditation system are the elaboration of an evaluation report, a site assessment visit by a committee of external experts, a recommendation component and an explicit evaluation and accountability component. A positive accreditation decision by the NVAO results in the recognition of the programme and is kept or listed in the Higher Education Register for 8 years.
The Master of Bioethics as well as the Erasmus Mundus Master of Bioethics both got a final positive decision by the NVAO in April 2008.
