To ease the transition from high school to university, the tutorial services for Exact Sciences were founded in 1968. Due to the big difference, between high school and university, in teaching and examination, most students deal with a number of problems. Therefore, the tasks of the tutorial services consist of:

• Providing information regarding training options of candidate-students.
• Giving coursetechnical help, for individuals or for groups.
• Searching for the most suitable studymethod for a certain course, together with the student.
• Discussing the results from trialexams and perhaps organizing catching up sessions.
• Helping with the preparation of exams, discussing and critically examining the results in function of the second examperiod or perhaps redoing the year.
• Offering help for students with personal problems, if necessary refering to specialized services.

Generally considerd, first year students can get help from the monitors, for all this pedagogical guidance, from the moment they consider a discipline to the moment they move on to the second candidature.
