A Society of Transplant Coordinators World-wide ... Prior to the formation of the International Transplant Coordinators Society (ITCS), there was no international body, no umbrella organization, to access expertise in transplant coordination topics around the globe. The ITCS was formed in order to create a structure that could respond to transplant coordination issues at international meetings, a structure similar to what the Transplantation Society provides for physicians, surgeons, immunologists and other related specialities. The ITCS is a society of transplant coordinators, both clinical and procurement coordinators, who provide a major portion of the infrastructure in which organ or tissue donation and transplantation occur. It is the position of the ITCS that Transplant Coordinators can best address the issues facing the field of transplant coordination and, further, that Transplant Coordinators should do and report the research which builds the science upon which this emergent profession is based. Transplant Coordinators world wide are encouraged to join. Membership benefits are expressed by supporting a transplant coordinator organization capable of developing coordinator meetings and/or topics within an international setting. Given its umbrella-like and complementary character, the ITCS is supportive of and encourages membership in transplant coordinators own national societies, such as the Australian Transplant Coordinators Association, the European Transplant Coordinators Organization, the Japanese Transplant Coordinators Organization, the North American Transplant Coordinators Organization, the United Kingdom Transplant Coordinators Association, and other national transplant coordinators organizations. ITCS is committed ... ... to foster communication and collaboration amongst transplant coordinators individually as well as with national and international associations or societies interested in the field of transplantation, transplant coordination and related subjects. ... to provide its membership and the general public information on an international level concerning organ/tissue donation and the benefits of organ and tissue donation. ... to provide professional education to its membership, thereby striving for a recognition of the profession of transplant coordinator through an internationally validated certification procedure. ... to promote research and provide a forum for the presentation of research findings regarding organ and tissue donation, procurement and transplantation.
