Over the past few months the ITCS has been reviewing its organisational structure. This review was prompted by:
-
The ITCS needing to re-incorporate in a new jurisdiction due to excessive company registration fees in the past.
-
The 'new' ITCS will be reconstituted as a legal entity in an alternate form i.e. a not-for-profit foundation registered in the Netherlands.
-
Continued strong international participation and interest in the ITCS Congresses and Workshops.
-
The opportunity afforded by this re-structure to strengthen the ITCS as an organisation, as a representative forum on an international scale and as an organisation capable of continuing its work in promoting the professional development and knowledge exchange of transplant coordinators.
The vision of the ITCS is to re-structure the organisation into one not only consisting of individual members but most importantly into one where the principle members and Board members are the affiliated national organisations themselves. In other words, the affiliated organisations will form the ITCS. The potential benefits of such an organisation are many:
-
Formal and strengthened communication between national organisations.
-
Development of an international forum for expert advice and cooperation both between the member organisations and with other bodies such as the Transplantation Society and potentially bodies such as the World Health Organisation.
-
Greater exchange of knowledge and best practice.
-
Broader recognition of transplant coordination as a profession.
-
Greatly enhanced promotion of member organisation activities.
With these things in mind the ITCS has developed a constitution (draft) and is inviting national organisations to join with it in forming the 'new' ITCS. National organisations such as NATCO and JATCO have already agreed to join us in forming this 'new' ITCS and it is hope other national coordinator organisations will do so in the near future.
